Marie in her studio, NSW

Marie Tacon is based in Illawarra’s beachside town, Bulli. Since 2001, she has devoted her passion for art as a high school Creative Arts teacher and is pursuing her career as an emerging artist.

Marie is a mixed media artist, who captures the Australian landscape from a bird’s eye view. She creates nature-inspired abstract compositions on canvas and paper, engaging her creative process that relies heavily on intuition and spontaneity. The organic process of combining different materials allows her the freedom to depict land formations as textural abstract forms.

In 2020, Marie travelled around Australia in a caravan with her husband and their two beautiful children. As she traversed the country, her connection with the landscape grew stronger. While spending months on the open road, Marie found new inspiration from the red desert of the Australian outback. Her body of work is inspired by the vastness of the Australian landscape, from the wide-open spaces in the outback to the ruggedness of the coastline.

Marie’s work emulates the patterns and textures found in nature, using rich layers to capture the diversity of her muse, the Australian landscape.

The Australian landscape is my muse;

she is so diverse, rugged and intense.
